I. TOPICS OF DISCUSSION
1.
Final drafts
of the updated IIPP: Cynthia distributed revised copies of the
District’s Illness and Injury Prevention Program to team members prior to the
meeting. They responded with a variety
of minor edits to the text. A new
“Message from the General Manager” which expands on the District’s official
safety policy statement at the beginning of the IIPP will be added, based upon
the recommendation of the SDRMA auditor, Jim Emerson. The entire revised document will be handed out to staff as a
replacement for the current IIPP.
Cynthia will conduct a safety training reviewing the new IIPP at one of
the next Staff Meetings.
2.
Fire Safety: As a follow-up to Team Safety’s discussion
of the use of the 5 Harris Court Office for Board Meetings, Cynthia reported on
her meeting with a member of the Monterey Fire Department to discuss safety
standards. The maximum occupancy for
the Conference Room, based upon room dimensions, is 49 people. This needs to be
posted in the room and enforced. Space
needs to be left by the outside door for wheelchair seating. Additional seating can be allowed in the
Lobby area, as long as an approximately 4-foot wide corridor is left by the
front doors for emergency exit. The
doors themselves do not have to be altered since they have push bars for easy
opening. They would not be locked
during a public meeting. Signage regarding restricted access to the second
floor and staff areas beyond the restrooms will be posted as well. If the District were to construct a raised
podium in the Conference Room for Board member seating, it would have to be
constructed with a ramp for wheelchair accessibility.
3.
Garage Door Safety: In response to a safety suggestion, the “Stop” button on the
overhead garage door is now working.
Additionally, sensors have been added to stop the door closing if an
object is in its path.
4. Ergonomics Training: The monthly “tailgate” training for September was on Ergonomics. Staff participated in demonstrating the proper way to work with tools and properly perform lifting, as well as describing work station changes that have relieved symptoms of “musculoskelletal” disorders.
