SUMMARY: February 2005
Total System for Month:
Total California American Water (Cal-Am) system production for February
was 937 acre-feet (AF), seven percent less than the anticipated goal of 1,005
AF, as shown on the accompanying table (Exhibit 23-A). The 937 AF
of production in February represents a 24 percent savings from Cal-Am's base
year (i.e., Water Year 1988) production of 1,238 AF.
Total System, Water Year to
Date: Total system production for 2005 Water Year
(WY) through February 28, 2005 has been 4,960 AF. The anticipated production of 5,562 AF for this same period is
based on an annual goal of 15,285 AF from the Cal-Am system for customer use
plus a maximum of 350 AF for injection into the Seaside Basin. Monthly production goals are calculated by
multiplying total annual production (15,285 AF) times the average fraction of
annual production for each month (based on production data from 1988 to 1997).
Ground Water Production: During February, 76 AF were produced from Cal-Am wells in the Upper Carmel Valley. This production was 46 percent more than the anticipated production of 52 AF. Lower Carmel Valley well production was 861 AF, ten percent less than the anticipated production of 953 AF. In February, no water was produced by Cal-Am from the coastal subareas of the Seaside Basin, consistent with the zero AF of production that was anticipated. It should be noted that in February, 133 AF were injected into the Seaside Basin as part of the District’s ground water injection testing program in the Seaside Basin. Although this quantity is included in the 861 AF of LCV well production, it was not produced to meet customer demand.
Surface Water Production: In
February, no water was diverted through the Carmel Valley Filter Plant (CVFP)
from San Clemente Reservoir, equivalent to the zero AF of production that was
anticipated. The total diversion
through the CVFP for WY 2005 has been zero AF, or zero percent of total system
production. Average release to the Carmel River from San Clemente Dam during
February was 398 cubic feet per second, as measured at the Sleepy Hollow Weir.
The anticipated river flow, storage values and production goals were developed jointly by the District, Cal-Am, and the California Department of Fish and Game in consultation with NOAA Fisheries. Cal-Am and District staff is monitoring reservoir storage, inflow and water quality, and will make additional changes as conditions warrant. Please refer to Exhibit 23-A for additional information regarding Cal-Am production in February 2005.
