SUMMARY:

March 2007

Total System for Month:  Total California American Water (CAW) system production for March was 1,038 acre-feet (AF), 14 percent less than the anticipated goal of 1,202 AF, as shown on the accompanying table (Exhibit 21-A). The 1,038 AF of production in March represents a 27 percent savings from Cal-Am's base year (i.e., Water Year 1988) production of 1,434 AF.

Total System, Water Year to Date:  Total system production for the 2007 Water Year (WY), through March 31, 2007 has been 6,026 AF.  It should be noted that during February and March,  12 AF were diverted from Lower Carmel Valley (LCV) wells for the Aquifer Storage and                       Recovery (ASR) Program in the Seaside Basin.  Although this quanity is included in the 6,026 AF year-to-date production, it was not produced for customer service.

Ground Water Production:  During March, 134 AF were produced from CAW wells in the Upper Carmel Valley.  This production was 38 percent more than the anticipated production of 97 AF.  LCV well production was 904 AF, 18 percent less than the anticipated production of 1,105 AF.  In March, zero AF were produced by CAW from the coastal subareas of the Seaside Basin, consistent with the zero AF of production that was anticipated.

Surface Water Production:  In March, no water was diverted through the Carmel Valley Filter Plant (CVFP) from San Clemente Reservoir, equivalent to the zero AF of production that was anticipated.  The total diversion through the CVFP for WY 2007 has been zero AF, or zero percent of total system production. Average release to the Carmel River from San Clemente Dam during March was 47 cubic feet per second, as measured at the Sleepy Hollow Weir.

The anticipated river flow, storage values and production goals were developed jointly by the District, CAW, and the California Department of Fish and Game in consultation with NOAA Fisheries.  CAW and District staff are monitoring reservoir storage, inflow and water quality, and will make additional changes as conditions warrant.  Please refer to Exhibit 21-A for additional information regarding CAW production in March 2007.
