SUMMARY:

April 2007

Total System for Month:  Total California American Water (CAW) system production for April was 1,113 acre-feet (AF), three percent less than the anticipated goal of 1,144 AF, as shown on the accompanying table (Exhibit 23-A). The 1,113 AF of production in April represents a 19 percent savings from Cal-Am's base year (i.e., Water Year 1988) production of 1,376 AF.

Total System, Water Year to Date:  Total system production for the 2007 Water Year (WY), through April 30, 2007 has been 7,139 AF.  It should be noted that during February and March, 12 AF were diverted from Lower Carmel Valley (LCV) wells for the Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) Program in the Seaside Basin.  Although this quantity is included in the 7,139 AF year-to-date production, it was not produced for customer service.

Ground Water Production:  During April, 58 AF were produced from CAW wells in the Upper Carmel Valley.  This production was 93 percent more than the anticipated production of 30 AF.  Lower Carmel Valley (LCV) well production was 668 AF, six percent less than the anticipated production of 714 AF.  In April, 387 AF were produced by CAW from the coastal subareas of the Seaside Basin, three percent less than the 400 AF of production that was anticipated.

Surface Water Production:  In April, no water was diverted through the Carmel Valley Filter Plant (CVFP) from San Clemente Reservoir, equivalent to the zero AF of production that was anticipated.  The total diversion through the CVFP for WY 2007 has been zero AF, or zero percent of total system production. Average release to the Carmel River from San Clemente Dam during April was 19 cubic feet per second, as measured at the Sleepy Hollow Weir.

The anticipated river flow, storage values and production goals were developed jointly by the District, CAW, and the California Department of Fish and Game in consultation with NOAA Fisheries.  CAW and District staff are monitoring reservoir storage, inflow and water quality, and will make additional changes as conditions warrant.  Please refer to Exhibit 23-A for additional information regarding CAW production in April 2007.
