SUMMARY:

September 2007

Total System for Month:  Total California American Water (CAW) system production for September was 1,358 acre-feet (AF), five percent less than the anticipated goal of 1,432 AF, as shown on the accompanying table (Exhibit 27-A). The 1,358 AF of production in September represents a 17 percent savings from CAW's base year (i.e., Water Year 1988) production of 1,629 AF.

Total System, Water Year to Date:  Total system production for Water Year (WY) 2007, which ended on September 30, 2007, was 14,080 AF.  It should be noted that during February and March, 12 AF were diverted from Lower Carmel Valley (LCV) wells for the Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) Program in the Seaside Basin.  Although this quantity is included in the 14,080 AF year-to-date production, it was not produced for customer service.

Ground Water Production:  During September, 27 AF were produced from CAW wells in the Upper Carmel Valley.  This production was 10 percent less than the anticipated production of 30 AF.  Lower Carmel Valley (LCV) well production was 1,007 AF, five percent less than the anticipated production of 1,055 AF.  In September, 324 AF were produced by CAW from the coastal subareas of the Seaside Basin, seven percent less than the 347 AF of production that was anticipated.

Surface Water Production:  In September, no water was diverted through the Carmel Valley Filter Plant (CVFP) from San Clemente Reservoir, equivalent to the zero AF of production that was anticipated.  The total diversion through the CVFP for WY 2007 has been zero AF, or zero percent of total system production. Average release to the Carmel River from San Clemente Dam during September was 3.5 cubic feet per second, as measured at the Sleepy Hollow Weir.

The anticipated river flow, storage values and production goals were developed jointly by the District, CAW, and the California Department of Fish and Game in consultation with NOAA Fisheries.  CAW and District staff are monitoring reservoir storage, inflow and water quality, and will make additional changes as conditions warrant.  Please refer to Exhibit 27-A for additional information regarding CAW production in September 2007.
