SUMMARY: Staff
is requesting authorization for a not to exceed amount of $10,000 to purchase
positive action shut-off hose nozzles which are provided free to the public to
save water. Funding is budgeted in the
pending Fiscal Year 2009-2010 budget under program 4-2-2, Educate Public and
Enforce Water Waste Rules. This purchase
is reimbursable through the California American Water (CAW) conservation
surcharge. Staff seeks immediate approval to allow the purchase to be made immediately
upon adoption of the 2009-2010 budget.
Funding is currently available.
The District, in partnership with CAW, provides
free water saving devices (i.e., showerheads, faucet aerators, hose nozzles,
soil moisture meters, etc.) to residents and businesses within the District at
events and meetings. Purchases are
coordinated with CAW to ensure that there is no duplication of effort and to
obtain the best prices from vendors.
Both entities provide these materials in the water conservation outreach
and education effort, and recently have been sharing space at local events to
be more responsive to the public. Staff
purchases all equipment at bulk rates.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the Administrative Committee support this item with a recommendation that the Board authorize staff to expend a maximum of $10,000 for purchasing 1,000 positive action shut-off hose nozzles.
IMPACT
TO STAFF/RESOURCES: Funding is available through reimbursement by
CAW through the conservation surcharge approved by the California Public
Utilities Commission (CPUC) in D09-05-029.
