SUMMARY: 

 

May 2009

 

Total System for Month:  Total California American Water (CAW) system production for May was 1,164 acre-feet (AF), 16 percent less than the anticipated production of 1,390 AF, as shown on the accompanying table (Exhibit 32-A).

 

Total System, Water Year to Date:  Total system production for Water Year (WY) 2009, through May 31, 2009, has been 7,919 AF. 

 

Groundwater Production:  During May, 201 AF were produced from CAW wells in the Upper Carmel Valley.  This production was 548 percent more than the anticipated production of 31 AF.  Lower Carmel Valley (LCV) well production was 748 AF, 29 percent less than the anticipated production of 1,059 AF.  In May, 215 AF were produced by CAW from the coastal subareas of the Seaside Basin, 28 percent less than the anticipated production of 300 AF.

 

Surface Water Production:  In May, no water was diverted through the Carmel Valley Filter Plant (CVFP) from San Clemente Reservoir, equivalent to the zero AF of production that was anticipated.  The total diversion through the CVFP for WY 2009 has been zero AF, or zero percent of total system production. Average release to the Carmel River from San Clemente Reservoir during May was 38 cubic feet per second, as measured at the Sleepy Hollow Weir.

 

The anticipated river flow, storage and production values were developed jointly by the District, CAW, and the California Department of Fish and Game in consultation with the National Marine Fisheries Service.  CAW and District staff are monitoring reservoir storage, inflow and water quality, and will make additional changes as conditions warrant.  Please refer to Exhibit 32-A for additional information regarding CAW production in May 2009.
