Team Safety Meeting

June 26, 2009

 

 

-  The meeting was called to order at 9:35 am in the District Library

           

                        MEMBERS PRESENT:           Rick Dickhaut, Matt Lyons, Cory Hamilton, Cynthia Schmidlin

 

                        MEMBERS ABSENT:              Michael Boles

                       

I.             TOPICS OF DISCUSSION 

 

         A,     OLD BUSINESS

 

1)      IIPP Update: Rick Dickhaut provided an updated vehicle list that includes the new Ford 2009 Escape for Thomas Christensen. His former vehicle, the 1995 Ford F-150 will be used by Kevan Urquhart. Team Safety reviewed the IIIP and discussed revisions to the Field and Office Safety Hazard sections, the Confined Spaces Program, and the Chemical Inventory, as well as the location of MSDS sheets regarding those chemicals. Cynthia is working on a new policy on personal electrical appliances that will require shut off switches that can be activated on a daily basis.  

 

B.     NEW BUSINESS

 

1)   Safety Record for FY 2009-2009:  Team Safety reviewed the District’s exemplary safety record for this fiscal year.  This is the second year in a row that we have had no accidents or injuries, other than one first aid doctor’s visit in 2009.  As a result, our Workers’ Compensation “experience” modification will be set at 73% of the rates for each employee category of waterworks for field workers, outside sales for conservation representatives doing inspections, and clerical for office staff.  In addition, through training and the development of sound personnel and safety policies, we have been able to secure a 15% discount on Workers’ Compensation rates for the coming fiscal year.  This is the result of District employee awareness safe work methods, keeping their safety training in mind.

 

2)            Safety Training in 2009: The safety training calendar for 2009 was completed by suggestions from the team, including Defensive Driving, Back Safety, and First Aid.  Comprehensive First Aid and Safety training through the Red Cross will be offered in 2010, when current certifications are expired.

 

3)            Upcoming Safety Inspections:  Inspection of the field locations will take place in early October and inspection of the 5 Harris Court building in December.
