SUMMARY:  On December 9, 2008, the Board entered into their most recent employment agreement with Darby Fuerst, to serve as the District’s General Manager. This agreement expired on December 31, 2009.  A sub-committee of the Board has met with Mr. Fuerst and developed a new employment agreement, effective retroactively to January 1, 2010, and extending through December 31, 2011 (Exhibit 2-A).  The parties agree to meet no later than November 10, 2011 to discuss renewal of this Agreement or execution of alternate terms of employment.

 

Under the terms of this agreement, Mr. Fuerst’s salary would be increased by approximately 2%, from $149,000 to $152,000 for the first year. His salary for the second year of the agreement would be increased approximately 3% from $152,000 to $156,500.

 

RECOMMENDATION:  The Board should consider whether or not to approve the proposed agreement of employment for the period January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2011 (Exhibit 2-A).

 

IMPACT ON STAFF/RESOURCES:  The increase in salary and benefits between most recent General Manager contract and the proposed General Manager contract would cost $3,738 in the first year of the contract and $5,645 in the second year of the contract.  The increase during the current fiscal year would be $1,865. This increase is within the Board-authorized General Manager’s office budget for Fiscal Year 2009-2010.
