SUMMARY: The Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) is celebrating its centennial in 2010. Many activities are planned for the year, including a variety of special sponsorship opportunities associated with ACWA’s Fall Conference (November 30, 2010 through December 3, 2010). Attached as Exhibit 4-A, is a brochure describing the sponsorship program. The deadline to participate is October 25, 2010.
Two Board committees have considered the sponsorship opportunities and made different recommendations as to the District’s participation. On August 4, 2010, the Public Outreach Committee recommended that the District not authorize funds for sponsorship. At the request of Director Brower, the Legislative Advocacy Committee considered sponsorship on September 29, 2010, and recommended that the District spend $500 to participate at the Bronze level described in the list below.
·
Acknowledgement in the back of the Centennial
History Book (Not available to the District as deadline for publication has
past)
· Acknowledgement in the December issue of ACWA News, which is mailed out to over 5,000 water leaders
· District logo included on the sponsorship PowerPoint that is presented during all conference meal functions
· MPWMD listed in the conference program booklet that is handed out to all conference delegates
· MPWMD listed on the conference sponsorship banners
· Listing in a special section of the ACWA web site which will be devoted to ACWA’s Centennial
· All MPWMD representatives attending the conference will be identified as a sponsor on his/her name badge
RECOMMENDATION: Determine if the District should allocate $500 for participation in the ACWA Centennial Sponsorship Program at the Bronze Level.
BACKGROUND: On August 16,
2010, the Board acknowledged ACWA’s centennial when it unanimously adopted
Resolution 2010-12 congratulating ACWA on its centennial anniversary. The Board may desire to promote the District
and increase its name recognition by participating in the sponsorship
program. The District’s Public Outreach
Plan states three goals that would be accomplished by supporting ACWA’s
activities through participation in the sponsorship program: (a) encourage the
public to actively participate in water management, augmentation and
protection; (b) actively involve, educate and encourage the public to support
water solutions; and (c) increase the public’s access to information on water
regulations, updates and changes
