SUMMARY: The
District’s Water Supply Planning Committee has asked that staff prepare a
letter of support for the Groundwater Replenishment Project proposed by the
Monterey Regional Water Pollution Control Agency ((MRWPCA). A copy of the letter will be provided at the
Board meeting.
RECOMMENDATION: District
staff recommends that the Board approve transmittal of a letter to MRWPCA
expressing support for further investigation of the proposed Groundwater
Replenishment Project.
BACKGROUND: As discussed at the Committee’s October 11,
2010 meeting, the MRWPCA Board did not plan to take any further action on the
Groundwater Replenishment Project until the California Public Utilities
Commission (CPUC) had issued a decision on Phase 1 of the Regional Water Supply
Project. The CPUC approved Phase 1 of
the Regional Project on December 2, 2010 (Decision 10-12-016). Now that Phase 1 of the Regional Project has
been approved, MRWPCA staff has indicated a desire to restart work on the
Groundwater Replenishment Project as part of Phase 2 of the Regional Project,
and has requested MPWMD support.
