June 2011

Total System for Month:  Total California American Water (CAW) system production for June was 1,110 acre-feet (AF), 21 percent less than anticipated production of 1,408 AF, as shown on the accompanying table (Exhibit 30-A).

Total System, Water Year to Date:  Total system production for Water Year (WY) 2011 through June 30, 2011 has been 9,725 AF.

Groundwater Production:  During June, no water was produced from CAW wells in the Upper Carmel Valley, consistent with the zero AF of production was anticipated.  Lower Carmel Valley (LCV) well production was 558 AF, 35 percent less than the anticipated production of 855 AF.  In June, 486 AF were produced by CAW from the coastal subareas of the Seaside Basin, three percent less than the 500 AF that was anticipated.  Well production from the Laguna Seca subarea of the Seaside Basin which includes Hidden Hills, Bishop and Ryan Ranch water systems was 39 AF, 39 percent more than the 28 AF that was anticipated.

Surface Water Production:  In June, no water was diverted through the Carmel Valley Filter Plant (CVFP) from San Clemente Reservoir, equivalent to the zero AF of production that was anticipated.  The total diversion through the CVFP for WY 2011 has been zero AF.  Average release to the Carmel River from San Clemente Dam during June was 86 cubic feet per second, as measured at the Sleepy Hollow Weir.

The anticipated river flow, storage and production values were developed jointly by the District, CAW, and the California Department of Fish and Game in consultation with the National Marine Fisheries Service.  CAW and District staff are monitoring reservoir storage, inflow and water quality, and will make additional changes as conditions warrant.  Please refer to Exhibit 30-A for additional information regarding CAW production in June 2011.
