SUMMARY: On
August 8, 2009, pump #2 went down at the Sleepy Hollow Steelhead
Rearing Facility (SHSRF). Immediately, JM Electric was contacted to diagnose
whether the pump failed and needed to be removed or an electrical component
failed. The diagnosis yielded a faulty
moisture control unit and some spliced wires. The moisture control unit was
special ordered and had a turn around of approximately two weeks. On September 3, 2009, JM Electric installed
the new moisture control unit and replaced the damaged wiring. Pump #2 is now
fully functional.
Total
cost for this expenditure was $2,395.11. The repair was completed on a time and
materials basis, thus the total cost of the project could not be precisely
predicted until it was completed. The SHSRF must have the back-up intake
pump back on line as quickly as possible, so staff was not able to wait for and
proceed through the normal process for approving expenditures of this
magnitude.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Board approve
this expenditure. These funds are within the allocation identified for this
purpose in the Fiscal Year 2009-2010 Budget, under line item 2-3-1 G.
“Intake/cold well repair & maintenance” for $15,100.
