SUMMARY: Staff
is requesting authorization for a not to exceed amount of $20,000 to purchase conservation
devices which are provided free to the public to save water. Funding is budgeted in the pending Fiscal
Year 2010-2011 budget under program 4-2-2-H, Conservation Devices. This purchase is reimbursable through the California
American Water conservation surcharge.
The District, in partnership with California
American Water, provides free water saving devices (i.e., showerheads, faucet
aerators, hose nozzles, rain sensors, soil moisture meters, etc.) to residents
and businesses within the District.
Devices are distributed at events and meetings and are advertised in
most outreach efforts. Purchases are
coordinated with California American Water, and orders are placed as bulk
purchases to obtain the best prices from vendors. The District currently needs to purchase
Showerheads, Rain Sensors, High Efficiency Pre-Rinse Spray Valves, faucet
aerators and hose timers.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the Administrative Committee support this item with a recommendation that the Board authorize staff to expend a maximum of $20,000 for conservation devices.
IMPACT
TO STAFF/RESOURCES: Funding is available through reimbursement by
CAW through the conservation surcharge approved by the California Public
Utilities Commission (CPUC) in D.09-05-029.
