SUMMARY: Staff is seeking Board authorization to contract
with WaterWise Consulting, Inc. to complete water audits at schools located
within MPWMD that are not supplied water by California American Water. California American Water has a contract with
WaterWise Consulting, Inc. to conduct water audits within its service area, and
this contract covers the remainder of the MPWMD not supplied by California
American Water. WaterWise has extensive
experience performing Non-Residential water audits on large institutional sites
and has begun audits on the non-California American Water schools located in
Seaside Municipal Water District.
WaterWise also has an established relationship with the Monterey
Peninsula Unified School District (MPUSD) through completion of several audits
prior to this contract. The water audits
contemplated for this contract will be completed at a cost of approximately
$3,000 each (depending on size of the property). There are roughly four MPUSD schools that
would be eligible for audits if this contract is authorized. Most of these schools are located in the
Seaside Municipal Water District.
MPWMD has funds in its Fiscal Year 2010-2011 budget to conduct audits of schools within the District that are outside of the California American Water boundary. The audits are designed to review all water use within the facilities, identifying the types of water uses and potential retrofits. The product of the audit is a report that includes a cost/benefit analysis of water quantity and cost savings. A Scope of Work is attached as Exhibit 2-A. Landscape Water Audits for the schools that receive indoor audits is also contemplated under this contract.
WaterWise
Consulting, Inc., has been contracted with the District to conduct Landscape
Water Audits and Landscape Water Budgets and to conduct audits in the
non-California American Water schools.
Their audit reports are particularly thorough and provide useful
information that is easily understood by the consumers. Staff will be requesting Board authorization
to implement the most cost-effective retrofits, beginning in July 2010. Additional conservation devices and materials
may be available through other programs offered through the District, Seaside
Municipal Water District, PG&E and others.
RECOMMENDATION: The Administrative Committee should recommend the Board authorize the General Manager to contract for professional services with WaterWise Consulting, Inc. to conduct water audits and prepare retrofit recommendations for the non-California American Water schools located within the District in a not-to-exceed amount of $10,000 during Fiscal Year 2010-2011.
IMPACT TO STAFF/RESOURCES: Funds for this project were approved in Fiscal Year 2010-2011 budget.
