SUMMARY: After a conducting an organizational review, regarding the information technology functions of the District, the General Manager has determined that the Chief Technology Officer position and the Geographical Information Systems Specialist position that reports to it, should be moved from the General Manager’s Office to the Administrative Services Division. Computer technology is compatible with the District-wide support mission of the Administrative Support Division. With this divisional reporting change, it has been further determined that a title change for the Chief Technology Officer to Information Technology Manager would best represent the scope of the incumbent’s duties and responsibilities.
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize a change to the District Organization Chart moving the Chief Technology Officer position and Geographical Information Systems Specialist position from the General Manager’s Office to the Administrative Services Division. Also authorize a title change for the Chief Technology Officer to Information Technology Manager.
IMPACTS TO STAFF/RESOURCES: These changes would have no cost impact.
BACKGROUND: Positions associated with information systems reported to the Administrative Services Officer from 1990 to 2000. This is a common reporting structure within many public agencies. The change would return the General Manager’s direct reports to four Division Managers and the Executive Assistant.
