SUMMARY:
The District currently provides
water conservation equipment to the public upon request. This equipment
includes 1.5 gpm showerheads and multi-position shut off hose nozzles. Water
efficiency standards adopted by MPWMD on January 1, 2010, require that all
properties replace showerheads prior to transfer of title and when a water
permit is required for a construction project.
Locating 1.5 gpm flow rate showerheads can be difficult. MPWMD provides the fixtures to ensure that
the proper flow rates are installed.
Funding is reimbursed by the Conservation Budget approved by the
California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) in the California American Water
General Rate Case for 2009-2011 and water savings are tracked and reported to the
CPUC annually.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the Administrative Committee support the District spending up to $14,300 to purchase water conservation equipment.
IMPACT
TO STAFF/RESOURCES: Funds for this expenditure were budgeted in Line
Item 4-2-1.
