SUMMARY:
As a component of the conservation
program, the District and Cal-Am provide water conservation equipment to the
public at the local offices and at outreach events. This equipment includes 1.5
gallons per minute (gpm) showerheads, multi-position trigger
hose nozzles, faucet aerators, and other water efficient equipment and devices.
Water efficiency standards adopted by MPWMD in 2010 require that all properties
install 2.0 gpm (maximum) showerheads prior to
transfer of title and when a water permit is required. Recent rules also
require water efficient showerheads in all non-residential uses. MPWMD provides
1.5 gpm showerheads to maximize water savings,
achieving additional savings of ½ gallon per minute over the current
requirement. Funding is reimbursed by Cal-Am as part of the Conservation Budget
approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and water savings
attributed to these fixtures are tracked and reported to the CPUC annually.
Staff is requesting authorization to spend up
to $9,000 to purchase 1,500 showerheads. This expenditure is fully reimbursable
and was included in the Fiscal Year 2012-2013 budget.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the Administrative Committee support the expenditure of up to $9,000 to purchase water conservation equipment.
IMPACT
TO STAFF/RESOURCES: Funds for
this expenditure were budgeted in line item 4-2-2-F.
