SUMMARY: Marina Coast Water District has contracted with Endorphin Productions to produce a local water conservation video. MPWMD will pay $2,000 toward the $4,000 production cost and will receive recognition in the video and on the promotional materials. The video will be filmed in both a three minute video and a 30-second commercial.
The video is intended to give visitors and locals a brief local view of the need to save water. It will be filmed locally, and will include local people, places and backgrounds. It starts off making a connection to pumping water and the use of electricity and moves to showing easy ways to reduce water use (e.g., in the shower, brushing teeth, washing laundry, etc.) inside and outside (e.g., drought tolerant plants and lawn alternatives). The video then covers efficient irrigation, including subsurface irrigation. Finally, the video will summarize the various conservation programs available to local water users, including on-site audits, rebates, free information and devices, and classroom and public outreach activities.
The cost of producing the video will include a limited
number of copies for MPWMD’s use. Once
the production has been completed, the Public Outreach Committee will have an
opportunity to screen the video and provide recommendations on further outreach
efforts, such as movie theater ads and public television screenings.
RECOMMENDATION: This item is for information only. Funding for this item is in the FY 2009-2010 budget and will be approved administratively by the General Manager.
