Action Items

1.         Review Proposed Yield Targets to Satisfy Existing Water Needs of the Monterey Peninsula

Rick made a motion that TAC members recommend to their governing bodies that they accept the 12,500 acre-foot estimate for replacement of existing water needs. Langford seconded the motion, and it was approved on a vote of 6 – 1.  Voting in favor of the motion were Conroy, Langford, Rick, Ingersoll, Mulholland and Greer.  Voting against the motion was TAC member Matarazzo.   He stated that a contingency factor should be reflected in the existing demand estimate.  He suggested that the EIR consultant review existing demand for capital consumption within the California American system to determine if that is reasonable demand.  Matarazzo stated that the proposed 12,500 acre-foot estimate is based on current extreme conservation measures, and that a factor should be added for future pent-up demand that must be met once there is an adequate water supply.

The TAC members agreed to submit the 12,500 acre-feet per year existing and 4,500 acre-foot per year future water needs estimates to their governing bodies for consideration, and that each jurisdiction would submit a letter to the District documenting the outcome of their deliberations.

During the public comment period on this item, John Fisher stated that if the Public Utilities Commission is considering a project that could provide more than 17,000 acre-feet of water, that would meet the existing and future needs estimates adopted by the TAC and PAC.
