The most recent activity regarding the proposal to remove San Clemente Dam and reroute a section of the Carmel River to San Clemente Creek was a set of two public information meetings, termed “community meetings,” held on November 30, 2010.  An afternoon meeting was held at the Carmel Valley Community Youth Center in Carmel Valley Village and an evening meeting was held at Mission Ranch.  The flyer for the meetings is attached as Exhibit 5-A, and a project update by the California State Coastal Conservancy is attached as Exhibit 5-B.  Two District employees, Larry Hampson and Elizabeth Geisler, attended the afternoon meeting.  Director Doyle and District Engineer Andrew Bell attended the evening meeting.  A question and answer period followed a presentation by Laura Engeman of the Coastal Conservancy.  Questions and comments centered on three main issues:  construction traffic, impacts of sediment transport and potential flooding, and the adequacy of the Final EIR/EIS on the San Clemente Dam Seismic Safety Project regarding details of the Carmel River reroute and dam removal alternative.  Ms. Engeman and Joyce Ambrosius of the National Marine Fisheries Service responded to questions and comments.
