SUMMARY: Since June 2013, Water Management District staff has been working with staff from the Monterey Peninsula Airport District (MPAD) regarding wells on MPAD property that had formerly been used as part of a groundwater remediation project. The purpose for discussions has been to facilitate determination of the potential for utilization of these former remediation wells as part of a small local water project that could benefit water users on the Monterey Peninsula. This work has included several site visits with MPAD and US Army Corps of Engineers representatives to assess the current status of the well system, and what would be needed to convert the system into use as a small water project. In August 2013, MPAD applied for grant funding under the Water Management District’s Local Water Project Grant Program. This was reviewed and approved by the Water Management District board at their September 16, 2013 meeting. A brief update on activities that are underway on this project will be discussed at today’s meeting.
