Thomas Christensen – Environmental Resources Division Manager
Thomas Christensen is the Environmental Resources Division Manager for the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District (MPWMD). He manages the Environmental Protection Program (Mitigation Program) at MPWMD that works towards restoration of degraded portions of the Carmel River that have been impacted by groundwater extraction and erosion. In this role, he also oversees the rescue and rearing of steelhead during the summer when portions of the Carmel River go dry. Thomas also coordinates the Vegetation Management Program on the Carmel River. Thomas is a graduate of Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo in Natural Resource Management and has a Master’s degree in Hydrology from the University of Nevada, Reno. He has worked at MPWMD since 1995 and spent two years working on the Truckee River in Nevada (1998-2000) before coming back to MPWMD as a full-time employee in 2000.
