SUMMARY: Six proposals
were received in response to the District’s Request for Proposal (RFP) for a
consultant to conduct a search for a general manager. The proposals will be distributed under
separate cover to members of the Administrative Committee to provide the
opportunity for review prior to the Administrative Committee meeting. Exhibit
1-A is a brief summary that indicates
costs, local clients, and other comments for each proposal. The firm names, cost estimates, and comments
are italicized for the firms that staff considers the most promising.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff
recommends that the Committee recommend contracting with one of the Executive
Search firms submitting proposals to conduct a recruitment for the General
Manager position, with particular consideration for Avery Associates and Bob
Murray and Associates.
BACKGROUND
INFORMATION: General Manager Darby Fuerst advised the Board
in November, 2010 of his intention to retire in 2011. He anticipates official retirement no later
than June 30, 2011. District staff developed a RFP for a consulting firm to
conduct the search for a replacement.
The RFP was approved at the December 13, 2010 Board meeting and was
mailed to thirteen potential consultants on December 15, 2010. The RFP was also posted on the District’s
website.
