I. TOPICS OF DISCUSSION
A. Annual
5 Harris Court Inspection: Team Safety performed inspections of the District’s main office
building.
The inspection rating
overall was satisfactory. Most office areas were neat and orderly, meeting all safety
standards and providing a professional environment. However, the following
problem areas were noted, according to inspection category:
1) General Work Sites are Neat and Orderly: One hydrologist’s office has a corner of the floor covered with his field
equipment, blocking access to file cabinets.
Other offices on the second floor are cluttered with papers and stacks
of files, but walking areas were clear and free of hazards. Boxes of file folders relating to the Seaside
Basin Adjudication Trial line the back hallway outside of Water Demand
Division, narrowing the hallway.
2)
Storage and Equipment Rooms are Neat and Orderly:
a.
First Floor File Room
near Garage – Boxes with file folders from the Seaside
Basin Trial are placed on top of the file cabinets and two unused lamps used by
Seaside Trial attorneys are also stored there.
b.
Planning and Engineering
File Room – There are still boxes of folders that
are stacked on the floor and on top of
file cabinets. They need to be
evaluated for removal to the archives or
filed.
c.
Water Demand Storage
Closet – Personal files and photos are stored in
a large cardboard box. They should be
separated from work materials to be filed and stored and taken home.
d.
Garage - The garage is still used for storage of unused equipment that
needs disposal. There are 4 air
compressors store, unused, that have been sitting in the garage for years and
should be evaluated. 1 15-foot length of unused PVC Pipe standing on end against
the storage racks is a hazard. A large
kettle grill and large weighted hula hoop that are staff personal property
should be removed and taken home. There
are a number of unusable computer monitors and other equipment scheduled to be
disposed of by the end of March. A
toilet being stored is to be moved into the woman’s restroom during the next 2
weeks. Two filled trash cans should be
emptied. Space around the electrical
fuse box should be cleared of tools to be stored in a wall rack.
3)
Other: New tall bookcases from the Seaside
Trial have recently been distributed throughout the building and are already
secured for earthquake safety. The last
one is being stored in the garage until it is installed in the Computer
Room. One bookcase in the other hydrologist’s
office needs to be secured to the wall.
Areas of carpet in both the Water Demand Division and Water Resources
Division have bumps that could cause trips and falls. Also glue that was unsuccessfully used to try
and secure the rug is sticky. These
areas need to be covered by carpeted and slip-proof mats. Thomas Christensen
volunteered to purchase some mats. The Automatic Electronic Defibrillator is
stored in the Conference Room cabinet.
It should be more visible in case of emergency. A wall bracket should be purchased and placed
on the wall immediately outside the Conference Room.
The principal safety issues at
Inspection Reports will be distributed to the appropriate Division Managers for review and remedial action.
II. NEXT TEAM SAFETY MEETING
